MAKE YOUR SPACE JUMP OUT

So you purchased a trampoline...

You’d like to create a fun outdoor experience, but you still want it to look great in your yard. A trampoline can take up a large amount of space, especially if you have a small yard, but you can still make the area look great with the right landscaping. Here are a few trampoline landscaping ideas to transform your trampoline area.

When people get a trampoline a lot of times they place it in the middle of their backyard. These might seem like the logical place to put it, but when your trampoline is in the center of the yard, it’s more difficult to landscape around it. The first tip for landscaping is to place it in a good location.

Choose a safe location

Before you can consider how you want to landscape around your trampoline, you must be sure it’s in a safe location. You don’t want to place a trampoline on or near concrete, trees, or bushes. It’s also not a good idea to place a trampoline next to a pool. The area around the trampoline should be grass, sand, or rubber mulch to prevent injuries. Wood mulch or gravel is fine to use underneath the trampoline. This will keep grass or weeds from growing underneath the trampoline, but consider putting a safety net around the trampoline if you decide to use a material that isn’t soft.

Place it on level ground

Because a trampoline needs to be on level ground, this might mean you need to level off an area of your yard. Placing your trampoline in the corner of your yard, or along an already landscaped area will allow you to landscape around it.

Create a path

You may want the area directly surrounding the trampoline to be something other than grass. Because of foot traffic, any grass around the trampoline may get damaged. Creating a path to the trampoline can keep the area looking great, This not only reduces the foot traffic, it makes your yard look more attractive. You can create a bordered path with wood chips or mulch, or use stepping stones.

Plant shrubs or plants

Separate your trampoline from the rest of your yard, by creating a recreation area. Plant shrubs, hedges, or flowers around the trampoline area. You don’t want these to be too close to the trampoline, but consider adding them on one side of your trampoline to act as a border. Or, you can plant flowers on the inside section of a pathway. You can even add shrubs or plants underneath your trampoline, provided they don’t need a lot of sunlight to grow.

Clearance next to a garage or garden shed

If you plan on placing your trampoline near a garage or garden shed, make sure there is enough clearance around it. You want to make sure that the trampoline is not touching any part of the structure, including gutters or overhanging roofs. There should be at least a few feet of space between the trampoline and the building. This not only ensures the safety of the trampoline, but it also makes it easier to access and maintain the building.

Water features

Adding a water feature to your trampoline area can create a soothing atmosphere while providing a fun activity for kids during the hot summer months. Consider adding a small pond or fountain near the trampoline. Just be sure to keep the water feature away from the trampoline, as water and trampolines don’t mix.

Being digging underground

Before digging or placing your trampoline, it’s important to be aware of any underground pipes, electrical or internet wires, as well as overhead wires and telephone lines in the area. If you accidentally hit an underground pipe or wire, you could cause significant damage, and it can be dangerous to come into contact with overhead wires and telephone lines. Contact your local utility company before digging or placing your trampoline to ensure that it is safe to do so.

Net poles and safety

If you have an in-ground trampoline, it may seem like a good idea to add a safety net to keep jumpers from falling off. However, adding a net can create obstacles in the form of net poles, which can be dangerous if jumpers collide with them. In-ground trampolines are already closer to the ground, so the risk of injury from falling off is lower compared to above-ground trampolines. If you still want to add a net to an in-ground trampoline, make sure the poles are placed far enough away from the jumping area and that they are securely anchored.
