Proper Trampoline Maintenance

to improve longevity

Ultimate Trampoline Care & Safety Guide

YOU MAY WONDER, HOW LONG DO TRAMPOLINES LAST? The lifespan of a trampoline depends on several factors: the quality of the trampoline and how you care for it. Trampolines are a source of endless fun & fitness, but they also require proper maintenance & attention to safety. The average lifespan of a trampoline is three to eight years, but a higher-quality trampoline will last much longer.

Whether you’re a new trampoline owner or have had one for years, following a regular care & inspection routine is essential to ensure it lasts longer & remains safe for everyone. In this guide, we’ll break down the best practices for trampoline care, maintenance, & safety tips to keep your jumping experience both enjoyable & secure.

General Care, Maintenance & Safety

To get the most out of your trampoline, it’s crucial to inspect it regularly. Ideally, you should perform a quick check before each use & a more thorough inspection every few weeks. Daily inspections help spot potential issues early, which can save you time & money on repairs as well as prevent needless injury from unseen problems.

New Owner Information

If you’ve just installed a new trampoline, don’t be surprised if it feels stiff at first. Trampoline beds & springs typically require up to two weeks to break in. During this period, bouncing may feel harder than usual, but the more you bounce, the quicker it will loosen up to provide that signature, springy feel our fly beds are known for.

String Bed Inspection

Strings are an integral part of any fly bed. Over time, they can wear out due to frequent use, so inspect them before each jump. Here’s what to look out for:

  • Fraying or breaking: Broken strings are most commonly found along the edge of the trampoline bed.
  • Quick repairs: Should you find broken strings, don’t worry! They can be easily fixed using a MaxAir Trampolines String Repair Kit. For a step-by-step video tutorial, head over to our Video FAQ for guidance.

Poly Bed Inspection

Strings are an integral part of any fly bed. Over time, they can wear out due to frequent use, so inspect them before each jump. Here’s what to look out for:

  • Tears or holes: Tears are the most common issue plaguing plastic trampoline beds.
  • Quick repairs: Oftentimes, poly beds cannot be repaired.

Occasionally, a temporary adhesive strip can be applied to both sides of small tears to prolong use but this is not suggested for older children & adults. Ultimately, a replacement poly bed will be required.

Spring Inspection

Springs provide the crucial bounce for your trampoline, so it’s essential they remain in tip-top condition. Before each session, lift up the spring pads & check:

  • Are any springs uncoiled, dislodged or broken?
  • Be sure that every spring is properly connected from the frame to the bed, and replace any damaged springs with either Regular, Super, Elite or Performance springs. Using springs from other brands can affect performance & void your warranty.

Frame Inspection

The trampoline’s frame is the backbone of the entire structure. It’s recommended to check it yearly for any signs of wear & tear, especially around the wiggle wire where the springs are attached. Ensure that all the mounting hardware is securely fastened to avoid structural problems. If you notice any spring hooks wearing through the wiggle wire, simply move the spring attachment hook to an adjacent wiggle wire spring hook attachment point.

Spring Pads

Spring pads (safety pads) serve to protect jumpers from landing on the hard springs & frame. Ensure the pads are properly secured over the springs, with no sagging onto the trampoline bed. The spring clips (often colored red) of the trampoline bed should be visible when standing on the bed, confirming that the padding is in place.

Cleaning Your Trampoline

Keeping your trampoline clean will extend its lifespan & keep it looking great.

  • For vinyl safety pad covers: Use 303 Multi-Surface Cleaner to wipe off dirt & grime. Follow the instructions on the product label for best results.
  • For trampoline beds: A mild detergent & soft-bristle brush are effective for regular cleaning. For areas exposed to high traffic or direct sunlight, consider repainting the bed annually to maintain durability. Be sure to watch our helpful Repainting Video FAQ if you feel it’s time.

Protection Against the Elements

Your trampoline is exposed to the elements year-round, so it’s important to take precautions:

  • UV protection: Monthly application of 303 Aerospace Protectant on vinyl covers will protect against UV damage & fading. This product can be purchased from most hardware stores or online.
  • Using covers: When not in use, cover the trampoline with a tarp to shield it from debris & harmful UV rays.
  • Cold climates: In areas with snowfall, it’s essential to remove snow build-up promptly to prevent the springs & trampoline bed from overstretching under the weight. Alternatively, consider removing the bed & springs & storing them inside prior to covering the trampoline for winter.

With consistent maintenance, thorough inspections & a strict adherence to safety guidelines, your trampoline will provide years of safe, exciting use. By following these care tips, you’ll protect both the trampoline & the jumpers who use it, ensuring every bounce is a fun & safe one! My favorite thing about the Bunker (Woodward Tahoe) is definitely the super tramp. It's unreal. It's so much softer than normal fly beds. It absorbs your bounce and you don't have to worry about traveling at all. I always travel and drift away from the center of the tramp and with this one I don't have to worry about it. People are going to dig this thing big time.

Our 14’ x 14’ trampoline is the best training tool we have at Woodward at Copper for teaching tricks to action sports athletes. The bigger bed is safer for teaching off-axis tricks, and it provides a slower bounce, which better simulates being in the air off a big jump. It’s fun for everyone who visits our facility and it doesn’t matter if they’re learning a seat drop, a 540, or a double cork.

I have received our trampoline, and it is installed per the instructions that I received. I had a tramp growing up, but it was nothing like this. The bounce is unbelievable! Thank you for the great customer service, and the fantastic product.

I've always wanted to buy a trampoline for my family but was never able to find something truly well built that also had the safety features I wanted. I did a lot of research on-line and then did some initial calls with a few of my top picks. Max-Air came out first based on their ability to customize to my needs. I wanted to be able to fit a large trampoline inside a barn and use the barn structure as a frame for safety netting. Max-Air delivered! I received an extremely well built unit that was easy to set up. My kids were jumping on it as I hung up the last piece of the netting! Thanks again to Steve and Paul and the whole group at max-Air. You guys did a great job.

I decided to get a tramp for my new house in order to improve my air awareness during skiing. The big ‘if’ was whether my wife would allow me to get one. “Where are you going to put it?” She asked. I searched and searched online and somehow ran into Max Air’s website. “No way, they’re in Grand Rapids Michigan?” I thought. Paul and Steve came out and measured the space I had and recommended a 14x10 tramp. After I got the quote I called Steve up and asked him to justify the crazy price tag. “Chris it’s hard to explain other than that this is the only high end custom tramp on the market. There’s a lot of things that go into our tramps, but they are the best.” I ended up pulling the trigger and we lined up a landscaper and got it installed. All I could say was “Wow, this thing is amazing”. We’ve had an in ground pool and a hot tub and I will tell you that this is a FAR better investment. My only regret is not planning for this tramp for the beginning of the building process. I would have gone a bit bigger and got even more padding (even though what we have works fine). On top of an amazing product, the Max Air team has awesome customer service. They have built two custom pitch mats for me and have done other things which were above and beyond. I cannot recommend them highly enough! Oh, and I forgot to mention the huge punchline to the experience: My wife LOVES the tramp because it actually looks great in our landscaping!
